With the unofficial start to summer now behind us, most job seekers pause their searches because they think nothing happens in the summer. Things I hear every year from candidates:
"I'm going to take the summer off and go back to work in the fall."
"Everyone is gone in the summer, so no hiring really happens."
"I have a few trips planned, so I'm going to take the summer off. But I need to land something by October."
If this is you, here's what's happening while you're sitting on the sidelines:
✓ Offers are still being made (just not for you).
✓ New roles are becoming available (that you won't be considered for).
✓ Search firms and hiring managers are interviewing and evaluating candidates now for offers planned for August and September (and you won't be on the list).

FACT: Interview and selection processes for VP and C-suite roles are taking up to FIVE months (and sometimes longer) right now. If you haven't searched for a new role in a while, you need to know this is a different market. This means the work you put in TODAY may not result in an offer until OCTOBER.
So if you take the summer off and wait until Labor Day to really hit your search hard, you've pushed back your timeline to land an offer to January. And for the average executive, each month you spend on the bench waiting for an offer costs $29,000.
This means taking the summer off could cost you up to $174,000 in lost income between now and January.
